No Comments on Revealed: New Zealand’s most Instagrammed locations

Everything from lakes and beaches to cities and movie sets have featured in New Zealand’s most Instagrammed locations this year.

Despite having a mere 369 residents in its township, Lake Tekapo was revealed as the most popular spot to share pictures from — thanks to the tourists who frequent the picturesque lake and surrounding Mackenzie Basin.

However, it was followed by urban locations a little less off the beaten track, with Auckland’s Queen StTakapuna Beach and the Sky Tower taking second, third and fourth places respectively.

Overall, New Zealand’s thriving tourism industry had a clear effect on the results, with popular destinations like the Hobbiton movie setMilford Sound and Abel Tasman National Park all appearing in the top 10.

Tourism New Zealand director of marketing, Andrew Fraser, said the list reflected the range of experiences on offer in New Zealand.

“The top 10 list this year is fantastic — there are lakes, beaches, cities, glaciers, and movie sets,” he said.

“The photography skills of visitors and New Zealanders on Instagram are quite remarkable — although they do have some pretty good landscapes to work with.”

The most popular Instagram hashtags used in New Zealand also reflected this, with #travel, #nature and #beautiful all featuring in the top 10.
